STUDENTS LEARN

Why We Chose Grade 3 for Our First Full-Year Pilot

Grade 3 serves as a bridge between early elementary socialemotional development and upper-elementary leadership development. We selected Grade 3 as our first full-year pilot because students at this age are developing greater independence, strengthening friendships, and becoming ready for deeper conversations about leadership, belonging, responsibility, and positive decision-making

WHAT IS A FOUNDING PILOT SCHOOL?

Founding Pilot Schools are the first schools selected to implement the complete Grade 3 Confident Life Program™ during the 2026–27 school year.
These schools will play an important role in helping expand access to high-quality SEL and bullying prevention education while receiving implementation support and recognition as early program partners

WHAT EDUCATORS ARE SAYING

The Confident Life Program™ served as an integral part of our SEL curriculum. It was an instrumental tool in supporting our efforts to provide our students the tools and skill sets necessary to build the confidence in our students to identify and vocalize their thoughts and concerns. It provided an expanded vocabulary necessary for students to better understand and express their own feelings as well as identify other’s feelings. It provided opportunities for our students to visually and auditorily learn about topics such as bullying prevention, friendship building, and other important topics such as Fair Play, Belonging, Inclusion amongst others. The Confident Life Program™ provided a space for open discussion and role play through read aloud for all our students UTK-2nd Grade. Our students really enjoyed connecting and learning about the different characters introduced in the three different Junga stories. In the end they were very thrilled to have welcome and meet Junga the Dancing Yeti. We are truly grateful for the opportunity to provide our students with this enrichment confident life program.
Julie Vallejo
San Diego Unified School District Horton Elementary School Counselor
"Every child deserves to learn in a safe and loving environment that is free of bullying, and the Confident Life Program™ provides the social-emotional tools and experiences that give them agency to be a leader and do the right thing when confronting bullies and bullying."
Dr. Michael McQuary
Ed D, SDUSD Board Trustee- District C, SCI Honorary Board, SanDISCA Director, SDCHM Director, SoCal Director
"Social-Emotional Learning is as important as the educational academic learning. In a classroom, you have so many different kids that learn in so many different ways. And what the Confident Life Program™ has done, is create a buffet, if you will, of things that the kids can connect to."
Sarah Saluta
Executive Director San Diego Cooperative Charter School
"The characters in the book are unique and their uniqueness show how conflicts can arise but also how they need each other when they encounter trouble. The lessons about diversity, anti-bullying, and cooperation are illustrated in this book. Children can learn these important lessons through the adventures of a young dancing yeti and his new friend, Heidi. The lesson plans will help parents and educators guide conversation with young children so they can develop the emotional and social skills needed in their own interactions and relationships with others."
Maria George
M.Ed., MPH, Child Development Professor
"As a retired District Counselor from San Diego Unified School District, I wish to commend the MTA program and it’s addressing of the ever growing bullying problem in our elementary schools. The appealing Junga the Dancing Yeti books that accompany the Confident Life Program™ (promoted by MTA), will attract students to deal with the issues of bullying. These books, in conjunction with The Confident Life Program™, can be a valuable resource for elementary School Counselors.”
Kathleen Roche Tansey
Retired District Counselor, San Diego Unified School District
In "Yeti, Set, Go!" the feelings of the characters are so relatable for children playing a sport for the first time especially when learning the moves might be a challenge. This book shows the real world of learning, of bullies, of friends, of coaches, of treats and solutions to problems that might surface. They will learn even as they are entertained by the actions in the story. I look forward to sharing this with my own grandchildren who are venturing into this arena.
